John and Corinne live right beside the Maribyrnong River. The home is set back into the riverbank and the garden has two aspects. In front of the house is the floodplain which has three dense shrubberies in which honeyeaters are always busy and a productive vegetable garden. At the rear is a north-facing steeply sloping bank which Eremophilas and Correas find to their liking.

Being retired, John and Corinne spend a lot of time in the garden; John propagating natives from seed, cuttings and grafting. Regular grandparenting is fun too. John is also involved with Friends of the Maribyrnong Valley.
